WASC Committee

My husband’s school, International School of Kuantan (ISK) just had its Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) committee visit from 27 April until 1 May. The committee consisted of 3 members – Paul Sicard, Patricia Puay, and Lowell Thomson. The visit was part of the process of getting the extension of ISK’s accreditation. I had a chance to meet with them and I must say that they were very warm and friendly bunch.

Briefing with MOHE

Bersama En Hadi Omar
On 30 April 2009 KPTM sent me and Cik Wan Shahar (our IT exec) to attend a briefing on data collection with the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE). The briefing was held at the Primula Resort Hotel in Kuala Terengganu. Since we preferred not to stay overnight, we had to leave the comfort of our blanket at 5.30 am. We made it just on time to register at 8.30 in the morning. The briefing was organized to get a uniform data from all private educational institutions in Malaysia. MOHE came up with a standardized format for all us to use when we submit our student data to them in June and December every year. The event ended at 1 pm. We arrived in Kuantan just in time for me to practice ping pong with my ping pong buddies.

Ping Pong Buddies

I never thought I would love playing ping pong that much! I started to get involved in this sport in 2005 when I first joined “Sukan MARA Se Malaysia” which was held in Kuantan. I have to give credits to my grand sifu Shamsul Mazran. He was the one who taught me with great patience. Currently I play/practice almost every day at the student center in preparation for the next Sukan MARA which will be held on 17 until 21 June 2009. I hope Pahang will be the champion. On Sunday 26 April 2009 we had our first central training for all Pahang players. Unfortunately not all showed up. We will try again next Sunday. Hopefully all will make it. Below are pictures of my regular practicing buddies:

My Favorite Group of Students

Students come and students go, but every once in a while I would feel very close to a certain group of them. This time the group that I am attached to comprises Hadi Jumaat, Iqbar Abdullah, Hakim, Azwana, Aliking, Hafdzan, Harris and a few others whose names somehow slipped my mind, but I will always remember their faces.

It seems that they just registered for the first time at KPTM but suddenly, it’s time for them to graduate and leave the College already. I feel so happy that they made it through until graduation but very sad to see them go. I wish all of them great success in whatever they do in life. I hope there will be another group to take up the empty space they left. Good luck to all.

Happy Mother's Day

I received this tribute to mothers through a forwarded email from my friend Sharifah Fatimah and thought of sharing it with all mothers (and fathers too) out there:

Before I was a Mom ,
I never tripped over toys
or forgot words to a lullaby.
I didn't worry whether or not
my plants were poisonous.
I never thought about immunizations.

Before I was a Mom ,
I had never been puked on.
Pooped on.
Chewed on..
Peed on.
I had complete control of my mind
and my thoughts.
I slept all night.

Before I was a Mom ,
I never held down a screaming child
so doctors could do tests.
Or give shots.
I never looked into teary eyes and cried.
I never got gloriously happy over a simple grin.
I never sat up late hours at night
watching a baby sleep.

Before I was a Mom ,
I never held a sleeping baby just because
I didn't want to put her down.
I never felt my heart break into a million pieces
when I couldn't stop the hurt..
I never knew that something so small
could affect my life so much..
I never knew that I could love someone so much.
I never knew I would love being a Mom .

Before I was a Mom ,
I didn't know the feeling of
having my heart outside my body..
I didn't know how special it could feel
to feed a hungry baby.
I didn't know that bond
between a mother and her child.
I didn't know that something so small
could make me feel so important and happy.

Before I was a Mom ,
I had never gotten up in the middle of the night
every 10 minutes to make sure all was okay.
I had never known the warmth,
the joy,
the love,
the heartache,
the wonderment
or the satisfaction of being a Mom .
I didn't know I was capable of feeling so much,
before I was a Mom .
